    Fresh Seafood Guide

    Fresh seafood comes with it’s own set of rewards and challenges. Can anything be more tasty - more healthy than a nice piece of fresh fish?

    Comparatively; fresh meat is quite forgiving compared to fresh seafood. People ask us why their fresh fish arrives with only one, two or three days ‘use by’ dates on them. The simple and short answer to that is - Fish isn’t fresh after 3 days.

    From the time it arrives at your home - fresh fish is deteriorating. The sooner you eat it, the better it will be!

    The colder you can keep it, the better it will be. Every hour a piece of fish sits at room temperature is equal to aging 1 day in the fridge.

    Any fish sold fresh have never been previously frozen. If you don’t intend to eat it by the ‘use by’ date; please freeze it. The sooner you freeze it, the better it will be when you thaw it later. 

    Portion sizes are the same for filleted fish as they are for meat:

    Recommended Adult portion - 180 - 200 gm per person

    Mussels or Clams (in shell) - 500 gm per person

    Whole Fish - 350 gm per person
